Sabar dans med Mbaye Art
🔶Sabar dans er en energisk og smuk dans fyldt med humor og leg. Den danses både på store scener og festivaler rundt omkring i verden og til livsbegivenheder som barnedåb, bryllup og fødselsdage. Sabar er også livskilden til de populære dansetrin i Senegal’s nye mbalax musikvideoer, hvor traditionel musik blandes med moderne lyd. Sabar danses helst til live-trommer, men man kan også danse den til indspillet musik.
🔶Underviseren er Mbaye Art som har færdiggjort en danseuddannelse i traditionelle senegalesiske danse som Sabar og Djembe samt moderne dans, ballet, jazz og dansepædagogik. Han har allerede meget erfaring med at undervise både senegalesiske og internationale dansere. Derudover har han en fantastisk energi, godt humør og stor venlighed. Der står mere om hans baggrund nederst i beskrivelsen.

🔶Om Mbaye Art:
Mbaye Art is from the artistic Guèdiawaye area in Senegal’s capital Dakar, where many great Sabar and Djembe dancers grew up and started dancing. He grew up with Sabar and Djembe music and dance, but started taking Sabar dancing seriously at the age of 14 where he started entering regional competitions. He has trained and taken classes at the famous Centre Culturel Blaise Senghor with famous choreographers within Sabar, Djembe, Ballet, Contemporary and Modern dance. In October 2017 he finished a professional education in Modern dance and traditional African dances after 4 years at the Alvin Ailey Academy in Centre Culturel Blaise Senghor. He has worked with the choreographer Omar Sene in Company Pasytef and represented Senegal at the “Jeux de la Francophonie 2017” where also Canada, Switzerland, France, Guinea, Ivory Coast and others participated. He has worked with Ibou Sarr, from Sénégal but based in Marseille, France, every year in Toubab Diallow for his festival at Sobo Badé. He has performed at Grand Theatre, Theatre Daniel Sorano and Kaay Fecc festival in Sénégal.
He has organized his own dance festival in Guèdiawaye every year since 2016, where he performs with other dancers and provide workshops as well as open tannebeer for dancers coming from all over Sénégal. The goal of the festival is to motivate Senegalese dancers to educate themselves and to show his own neighborhood that a career as a dancer and musician can be professional and serious.
In Scandinavia he has performed at subURBAN festival 2019, Couleur Café festival 2018 and 2019, Malmö festival 2018 and 2019, Kiruna Festival 2019, Musikhuset (Århus) in 2017, in Toulouse (France) 2018 and at several smaller events. He has participated in several experimental urban dance battles in Copenhagen and in May 2018 he won the experimental battle at subURBAN dance festival 2019. He has taught classes at Stepz dance education (CPH), World Dance Academy (CPH), Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium Århus, Kulturfabriken (Malmö), Attitude69 (Eslöv), Danscentrum Syd (Malmö), ABF Malmö as well as workshops in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Essen, Marseille as well as several cities in Senegal.
Besides being a dancer, Mbaye Art is also a professional Sabar and Djembe drummer trained in the villages of Senegal. He used to play every weekend when he lived in Dakar, Senegal, and has already played in Copenhagen, Århus, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmø and Essen at different events.

🔷️ Sabar dance is an energetic and beautiful dance filled with humor and play. It is danced both on major stages and festivals around the world and for life events such as christening, weddings and birthdays. Sabar is also the source of the popular dance steps in Senegal’s new mbalax music videos, where traditional music is blended with modern sound. Sabar prefers to dance to live drums, but you can also dance it to recorded music.
🔷️The teacher is Mbaye Art who has completed a dance education in traditional Senegalese dances such as Sabar and Djembe as well as modern dance, ballet, jazz and dance pedagogy. He already has a lot of experience teaching both Senegalese and international dancers. In addition, he has a great energy, good mood and great kindness. More about his background is at the bottom of the description.

Mbaye Art’s Sabar dance classes will be taught online and live on the ZOOM app as long as there’s an interest. If you can’t take the class live, you can buy access to the class footage and follow it as a class.

🔷FOR LIVESTREAM STUDENTS:
– Download ZOOM app on your computer. You don’t even need an account. If you want to sign up, you can do it fast via Google or Facebook.
– You can enter the class 10 minutes before class and leave the ZOOM class anytime, but be there from the beginning. BE ON TIME.
– Sometimes the first 20 minutes will be live-streamed on Facebook on Frederikke Hauberg and Instagram: mbaye_art .. But the FULL CLASS will take place on ZOOM.

– The concept is pay-what-you-can. If you can’t pay, please share our videos, invite people to our events, so more people join and contribute. We have family and friends in Senegal who depend on us.
